Sustainability Saturday: Barbour Wax Jackets
Barbour Wax Jackets
Our recent facebook features on “slow fashion” really got you all talking. One thing that emerged was how many of you have a 20 or even 30 year old Barbour Wax Jacket that still looks as good as new and is in regular use.
The Barbour Wax Jacket embodies so many things we love about “slow fashion”, and this blog takes a look at a few of those features.
Quality Garments & Materials
As members of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), Barbour support a more sustainable, environmentally friends and people friendly approach to garment manufacture. 100% of the waxed cotton is sourced through the BCI.
Through BCI and its partners, farmers receive training on how to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and apply decent work principles.
And as many of you have testified, these top quality wax jackets have been made to last and last, and with the proper care still function fantastically after decades of use.
Timeless Style
Tweaks and updates have been made over the years, but this classic jacket is still recognizable from the first jacket designed in 1939.
Product Journey & Craftsmen
Barbour Wax Jackets are made in England in Barbour’s Southsheilds Factory (which has existed in various forms since 1894), supporting the skills of the local craftsmen, and also supporting UK manufacture and industry.
Care & Repair
Barbour are committed to the longevity of their Wax Jackets, and offer a repair service, rewax service, or dressing so you can rewax the jacket yourself.
Rewaxing service
Barbour recommend that wax jackets and other wax items are rewax annually, to maintain the coating and to get the best longevity from your product
Barbour offer an affordable rewaxing service from their Southsheild UK factory, which rejuvenates and protects your jacket or any small items such as hoods, dog coats, accessories etc.
Repair service
Barbour jackets are designed for country living, and a tear, hole or worn out zip doesn’t mean you have to throw it away. The Barbour repair service offers to fix anything from patching and repairing holes, to restitching, inserting a new zip, button or stud, replacing a bellow pocket, to even replacing a full sleeve.
Rewaxing at home
You can also purchase the Wax Thornproof Dressing and care for your jacket at home yourself. Barbour have made full care instructions and videos available to help you look after your Barbour Wax Jacket, Dog Coat, Hood and accessories.
